About our Facility

Sadly we sold Horse Haven Farms.

We care for your horse. We take care of them like they are our own. A very kind and horseloving group of people. We have a 90x140' outdoor sandring, and lots of paddock space on our 40 acre property. The horses are usually out in small groups of 2-3 in large paddocks, although we change the paddocks every so often.  We have a large field of grass for them to go out in for the summer, unless any of them aren't good with others, then we'll keep them separate. They are turned out for about 8 hours a day on average. Longer in the summer and a little shorter in the winter. When the horse flies and deer flies are nasty in the summer, we change their turnout to overnight, and they can relax in the barn during the daytime instead.  They are fed grains twice a day and hay at least four times a day. The horses are all happy and relaxed in their large luxury stalls that are at least 12x12 with minimum 13 foot height ceilings. They can hang their heads out into the aisleway, giving them the opportunity to see what's going on, and not to feel confined.

Feeding Program

We cater the feed to the horse's needs. They can have either a 12% sweet feed or a high fat/high fibre pellet (or both), quantities varying of course, depending on the easy and not-so-easy keepers. Plus, they all have the opportunity to get some warm, presoaked beet pulp. In addition, we feed bran mash twice per week. They definitely love meal time, that's twice a day. Hay is fed four times daily, only good quality square bales. They get about a bale a day each on average. There is always plenty of water available for the horses, either in buckets or barrels in the paddocks, and in the stalls. They are given water that is slightly warmed for drinking in the cold winter months.

We have trails!

There are trails on and off the property. You can walk down the road and connect with various trails, or go on our trail which will continue to be expanded. By the way we have 30 acres!

Location

We are located on the outskirts of Elmsdale, Nova Scotia. Off of the 102 highway, a couple of exits north of the airport. We are 5 minutes off of the highway. Within half an hour of Halifax, Dartmouth, Truro or Windsor. It's an easy drive in and out of the city, and we're on a main road (although the barn and ring are set well back from the road) that is always a clear drive year round. The Stable

You can see the barn in the photo on the right (if you click on the image , it will enlarge your view).  It is an 8 stall barn, with a grooming area. There is a tackroom for all of our stuff! The stalls have doors that are open so the horses can hang their heads out and enjoy the view, or make faces. The stalls as I mentioned are 12x12, some are larger, and ceilings are 13'. The barn is well ventillated, with a capola on top. The barn overall is about 36 x 36'. The exterior is wood board and baton . There is some hay storage along one side within the barn, but separated by an interior wall. There is a second, separate hay storage building. Hay is not stored above the horses causing any kind of dust falling through, or from hay being thrown down.

SANDRING CONSTRUCTED 2007 90 x 140:  Now complete is our new professionally installed 90 x 140 outdoor sandring that is ridable year round! (photos on the photos page of this website)

What Services Does Horse Haven Farms Offer?

Boarding & Training Board

We ask that your horse be up to date on vaccines and worming prior to moving in. We do keep them on a regular deworming program, we just ask that you cover the cost of the dewormer. Veterinary and blacksmith expenses are for you to take care of. You can use the vet and farrier the rest of us use, or you are welcome to use one you are comfortable with already.

It's a relaxed atmosphere.  Hacking is available, on or off the property.  We have the new ring and some jumps and poles.  If you're interested, I can provide training for your horse, whether he needs breaking, is green, or you would like him to be exercised, lunged, etc.

 Thanks for reading about us.
